TMWTIF is a take on 70's martial arts movies. done almost in the same manner. the movie almost looks as if it could have come from that era(that might be the copy I‘m not sure) and this aids it in it‘s authenticity. Iron fists isn't trying to reinvent cinema it’s just into showcasing it’s undying devotion to retro martial arts flicks done by golden harvest. In emulating such movies it is almost like a rule that bad acting be incorporated into the proceedings as well as voice delays. It’s part of the aesthetic.
but, just because the movie is a riff on the golden era of martial arts movies doesn't mean the story should suffer and die at behest of the effect. The pacing which is the key ingredient to set up suspense or drama is M.I.A. Personally and this is just my opinion but I think movies such as FISTS OF FURY or CHINESE CONNECTION were all attempting to be huge epics they only lacked the budget to be box office champions. This movie is 50 times the budget of those movies and those movies are still better.
i heard of the director but don't know him well enough to sense a body of work. but certainly i don't see any John Woo coming from the likes of him. this is a mess... Red Dawn for instance might have a ridiculous plot but at least it isn't as lazily put together as this shoddy piece of work
there was potential here. but it’s all in the design of the characters getup's and a few cool images. The action needs to be better and the story should at least be attainable. It’s so convoluted the director might have better served the audience with a huge cage match as the actual plot and ditched women and empowers and such for a straight up brawl ala UFC.
When watching a movie you have to concider the source, ergo The Rza was starring in it. So you have to go into it with the mind set of that and just try to enjoy the movie for the fight scenes and not so much the plot or story line. Try it that way and try to look at it again I am sure it will me a more enjoyable movie if you do.
i didnt get past the opening credits. a kung fu movie starts with a hip hop track , whatever next? a gangsta movies starting with the pleasant sounds of morris dancers jingling their bells and whacking their sticks. tarantino you should be ashamed of putting your name to this drivell
I am so disappointed from the trailer this looked as though it could have been a good movie...I should have know because RZA was the star...he does okay when he has small roles that he didn't write but this was too much of him and not enough story it didn't come together and I love martial arts movies...some of the fx's were okay nothing you haven't seen I'm glad I didn't pay money to see it...thanks Zmovie for that at least
the movies is sick as hell with plenty of fights can believe Batista is in def a must watch for kung fans 9/10 but can wait 4 a better video plus thanks to who ever posted the video
decent old school style Kung-fu movie. Lame plot and acting, decent action, some typical exaggerated special effects. But a decent watch 6 or 7 out of ten and that is being generous. If you like these types of movies you'll enjoy this for the most part
Reminds me of the old Chinese Kung Fu movies of the 70s to a certain extent.I really freaking liked it.I thought it was awesome but m/b that's nostalgia talking.8/10.But then entered Dave Batista smh ... this damn fool couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.His inability to act drops my rating down to 6.5/10.The movie would've been so much better w/o his being in it.I put forth better acting skills when I was a young child feigning sick b/c I didn't wanna go to school.But b/c of my fondness for the old Kung Fu movies & the similarities that this 1 brings I shall give The Man with the Iron Fists a final rating of 7.5/10
