Evidently this was a classic series that I never watched once. The movie however was not bad. Funny at times, but nevertheless amusing. For me, 3.5/5. One of those movies I contemplate on watching again when I'm bored, but end up thinking "Nah, what else is on..."
This movie stayed true to the original series which made it even better. I feel so sorry for all of the smarmy little dweebs who posted negative comments about this movie. None of you ever saw the original Dark Shadows so you can't appreciate the story line of the Collins epic. You just plain don't get it and you never will. Just go watch a slasher movie or a cartoon or something and leave the good movies to we who can appreciate them. Some of you act like you think you're movie critics and someone cares what think. Big news. You're not and we don't. Now go to bed children.
Worth a watch, but I found it kind of lame. A few parts were interesting, but over all, it reminded me of the Adams Family. Nothing to get excited about.
The only thing's about this movie that resembled...
The orig. dark shadows were the names. I thought it was gonna be a funny version...it was not. I didn't laugh once. I loved the orig. series and story and I knew it wasn't supposed to be like that version. I was very disappointed. I like some of Johnny Depp's work. But then he has his weird stuff....and this would go in the weird stuff(Sweeney Todd, Edward Scissor hands,Alice in...)-1/5 Over all
Barnabus is too civilised to be an exciting vampire but overall the movie was entertaining. Didnt have any expectations. Depp played the character a bit too theatrically at times and his face makeup was too white. He stayed in 17 centuary garb throughout. Wouldnt call it a comedy.
The television series was good. This movie doesn't follow the true storyline. The original was a 1960s ABC soap opera, and was remade in the 1990s for television as well. A total of 1,225 episodes were produced. In 1991 it aired on NBC from January 13 to March 22 and was a lavish, big budget weekly serial.
I never saw the television show. But thankfully you don't have to be familiar with it to watch this movie. The one thing i really like about the movie is the title song and the shots of the train.
The rest of the movie...
Well it's not bad. Not at all bad. The secret passage way underneath the fireplace is cool and B Collins desire to put family first is very cool. Victoria is beautiful and has quite a career in front of her.
But the problem is the movie is a tad to solemn. And it takes an effort to sit through. Some of the jokes really don't land. And the centerpiece; a scene in which Depp and Eva Green tear apart the room while in a sexual tizzy kinda woks.
Gettin the picture... Don't get your hopes up and you'll enjoy this movie.
As far as the cam is concerned. It is good. I thought it was funny seeing a warning commercial at the beginning of the feature. The guy recording probably got a kick out of it
The sound however is a problem. Words connect together without spaces in between. Causing some viewers to guess what was said while listening to more dialogue.
I liked this film alot. It was enjoyable and easy watch film...not over done and just good old style with script,acting. Edward Scissorhand type character and i loved him as Barnabas the vampire it fit Mr Depp perfectly and retro feel set in 70's. enjoyed it
i didnt think it was that bad. 4.5/5 I like seeing Depp as a character actor (E.Sisscorhands,J.Sparrow,S.Todd)type of chacacter as opposed to acting as a person(R.Dairy,Tourist) cause thats what he's best at to me at least & that goes for H.B.Carter as well but anyways its definitely worth the watch for any Depp fan
I really like Johnny Depp, but I am sorry, I didn't like this movie. I have loved vampires since 'The Lost Boys,' but the character Johnny Depp plays is probably one of the most boring vampires that I have ever seen in a movie. I really hate to be so critical, but that is my honest opinion.
Huge fan of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton films. I thought the film was pretty good. I felt the movie kept me interested the whole time. The quality of the movie was very good. No problem with sound or video. I recommend this one. Thanks zmovie!
This film will be a dismal failure at the box office, and it should be! The comedic parts are few and far between. Another rush-job film which could have been so much more. It should NEVER have been made a comedy. It Needed a different Director. Johnny Depp would have made a great Barnabas Collins. If this film had been given the time, resources and director that the story deserves it would have been a smash hit, horror/fantasy film.
depp has done some stinkers, and this one is alright but I wasnt overly impressed. a bit 2 dimensional, so I feel a bit indifferent towards the people.
Some nicely shot bits. some of depps lines are good, but on the whole kindof a ? so what?.. overall feeling about the film. decent special effects I suppose. For me nuthin to write home about..
Sorry but I think Johnny Depp is running out of characters not that he had many to begin with. Several parts of his acting reminds me of other characters he has played, his accent seems to float in and out of them. The funny bits arenīt funny, more corny than anything. The story isnīt worth basing a film around, definitely NOT what you expect from Tim Burton. I guess this was made to keep his friends and his lover in work. SHAME it could have been a fun movie.
